A study in Porcelain

Katha Nauriyal visited the recently unveiled Kahla and Greggio outlet in South Bombay and tells you why you can expect to be spoilt for choice here

If you’re looking for a little luxury, we’ve found the perfect space for you. From the moment you enter its pristine white store, Kahla and Greggio promises to shower you with treatment that’s fit for a king. Considering its posh South Bombay zipcode, its target audience is no surprise. While a quick glance through the store is enough for a glimpse into the luxurious pieces it holds, the extensive variety of intricate silverware and porcelain on offer commands a lot more of your time.

The store is divided into different sections, neatly displaying each collection, all of which are also beautifully colour-coordinated. And, the perfect layout is only enhanced by the large, sparkling chandeliers. The collections here boast of a wide array of colours, offering you a myriad of options to pick from. And, while carefully going through its never-ending range can leave you exhausted, the pieces that instantly caught my eye were the quirky butter containers, available in different colours and sizes. Also what I noticed were that the mugs and cups were designed in different mouth sizes! The silverware collection is also quite elaborate. In fact, you can personalise some of the pieces by having your name carved on them.

Kahla and Greggio also had surprises planned for their customers during the festive season. They introduced a special Christmas collection, with Santa and reindeer designs that were interesting (but expensive) presents for the holidays. Even if you missed out last week, you should head over to see whether they have any left — they were gorgeous enough to be used year-round!

But, what really caught my eye was a special magic grip collection, which featured cutlery with silicon bases that was gorgeously displayed on a shelf that sprang up and down on each side (much like a seesaw). The silicon base gives it the grip so that it didn’t slip or slide as the shelf moved, perfect for accident-prone foodies.

While most of their products come in pretty pairs and readymade sets, you don’t have to force yourself to buy them as they are — you have the liberty to mix and match different products and create your own set that fits your culinary needs. Additionally, you can pick individual pieces too.

In a nutshell, the Kahla and Greggio store has something for everyone. It caters to young buyers too, with a range of modern and edgy products in addition to some interesting cutlery that children can colour on. It offers a blend of modern and vintage collections, and gives everyday home and gift items an artistic twist. While it’s certainly not easy on the pocket, the products are worth the price tags they command!
