China billionaire reportedly arrested over child molestation
Beijing:
Prosecutors in Shanghai have formally arrested two people over child molestation allegations, with state media identifying one as a prominent real estate developer. The case has received prominent coverage in state media, including on national broadcaster CCTV yesterday, highlighting what is believed to be a widespread but underreported crime affecting millions of children in China.

UN calls on Malawi to free protest organisers
Blantyre (Malawi):
The UN yesterday called on Malawi authorities to free two organisers of protests against alleged election fraud who were arrested on suspicion of stealing money from AIDS programmes. "UNAIDS respectfully requests the immediate release of the two members of the Mango Network, Mr Gift Trapence and Mr Macdonald Sembereka, from police custody," the UN programme to end AIDS said in a statement. Mango is a network of non-profit groups in Malawi.

Huawei to launch its first 5G smartphone on July 26
Beijing:
China's telecom giant Huawei is planning to release its first 5G smartphone on July 26 to march ahead in the global race for setting up the super-fast telecommunications system, amid simmering tensions with the US over technology and trade. Huawei is expected to release its first 5G smartphone, the Huawei Mate 20 X, at its headquarters in Shenzhen, state-run the Global Times quoted unnamed Huawei officials as saying.

China plans to launch 100 satellites by 2025: Official
Beijing:
China plans to launch about 100 satellites into space by 2025 adding to the more than 200 that are already in orbit, an official at the China National Space Administration said. China, which is investing heavily in space technology with plans to build its own space station by 2022, reported to have about 280 satellites currently in space against India's 54 until November last, according to World Economic Forum Data.

N. Korea vows to respond to South’s purchase of F-35 jets
Seoul:
North Korea has slammed South Korea for purchasing high-tech U.S. Stealth fighters, warning that it will respond by developing unspecified special weapons of its own. yesterday's warning comes as North Korean and U.S. Officials are expected to soon resume nuclear negotiations to follow up on their leaders' third meeting at the Korean border late last month.

Man arrested after scaling Buckingham Palace gates
London:
A man has been arrested after scaling the gates of Buckingham Palace, where Queen Elizabeth II is currently in residence, officials said yesterday. The 22-year-old, who was unarmed, was arrested at around 2:00am (0100 GMT) on Wednesday and the incident is not being treated as terror-related, the police said.
