Hafiz Saeed's brother-in-law arrested in Pakistan
Lahore:
Outlawed Jamaat-ud-Dawa's top leader and Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed's brother-in-law Hafiz Abdur Rehman Makki has been arrested for hate speech and criticising the Pakistan government, police said yesterday. Makki, head of JuD's political and international affairs wing and in-charge of its charity Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF), was arrested during a government crackdown against the outlawed organisations.

Theresa May to bring rejected Brexit deal back for Parliament vote in June
London:
British Prime Minister Theresa May has announced plans to bring her Brexit withdrawal agreement back for a fourth Parliament vote in June, setting an effective deadline for the ongoing cross-party talks to find a consensus on Britain's exit terms from the European Union (EU). Downing Street said in a statement on Tuesday evening that the Withdrawal Agreement Bill will be brought before the House of Commons in the week beginning June 3 in order for the UK to be able to leave the 28-member economic bloc within the October 31 deadline.

German authorities raid 11 banks in tax evasion probe
Berlin:
German authorities have carried out raids on eight individuals and 11 banks in an investigation of suspected tax evasion stemming from the leaked Panama Papers. News agency dpa reported that Frankfurt prosecutors said yesterday's raids in various parts of Germany also targeted the offices of four tax advisers. The wealthy individuals are suspected of setting up letter-box companies via a former subsidiary of Deutsche Bank and evading taxes.

Fire on ship carrying 1,800 cars off Spanish island
Madrid:
A fire broke out at dawn yesterday aboard an Italian car transport ship loaded with 1,843 vehicles off the Mediterranean island of Majorca, Spanish maritime emergency services said. Fifteen of the 25 crew of Grimaldi Lines' Grande Europa were taken off the 183-metre vessel by helicopter before the blaze was brought under control around midday. The remainder stayed behind to tackle the blaze.
