Kremlin says still hopes for dialogue with US despite Syria strikes
The Kremlin said it still hopes for dialogue with Washington despite US-led strikes on Moscow's ally Syria last week. "We hope that, when our American colleagues solve their internal issues, some kind of communication will begin despite all the damage to (our) bilateral relations currently imposed by Washington," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. He added that there are no current discussions between the two countries on a possible summit between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

China’s former insurance regulator charged with bribery
The former head of China's insurance regulatory body has been formally charged with bribery and abuse of power,  prosecutors said today, becoming the most senior financial regulator to be targeted in a continuing crackdown on corruption. Xiang Junbo, 61, took advantage of his position to amass "an enormous amount of assets" first as a deputy governor of the central bank, then as head of the state-owned Agricultural Bank of China, and finally as chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said in a statement. Xiang was appointed to the top job at the regulatory commission in 2011.

Judges are ‘real lions’, says Pak chief justice
Pakistan's Chief Justice Saqib Nisar today praised judges as "real lions" and said the court is observing patience over remarks against it, in an apparent reference to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif who has been making anti-judiciary statements since his ouster last year. Sharif, 68, is described as 'Lion of Punjab' by his supporters and the electoral symbol of his Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) party is a lion.

US pastor on trial in Turkey for terror links
An American pastor is going on trial in Turkey accused of ties to terror groups and spying, in a case that has strained ties between Turkey and the United States. Andrew Craig Brunson, a 50-year-old evangelical pastor from North Carolina, faces up to 35 years in prison on charges of "committing crimes on behalf of terror groups without being a member" and "espionage."
