Israel to strip Arab attacker of citizenship for first time
An Israeli court has decided to strip an Arab Israeli attacker of his citizenship, legal sources said today, in what a rights group said was the first ruling of its kind. The Haifa district court decided to strip Alla Zayud of his citizenship yesterday by applying a 2008 law that allows the interior ministry to deprive of their nationality those involved in "terrorist activities", the sources said. Adalah, an Arab Israeli rights group, said it was the first court decision of its kind. The 22-year-old, from Umm al-Fahm in northern Israel, was convicted on four counts of attempted murder after driving a car into Israeli soldiers and stabbing civilians in October 2015.

Typhoon Noru slams into western Japan
Strong typhoon Noru made landfall in western Japan today after killing two people on outlying islands, as authorities warned against landslides and floods. The typhoon with gusts up to 162 kilometres per hour hit the northern part of Wakayama prefecture at around 3:30 PM after whipping up waves and winds off southern Japanese islands at the weekend, the meteorological agency said. Television footage showed high foamy waves smashing into breakwaters in Wakayama, while roof tiles were ripped off homes in neighbouring Mie.

N Korea poses grave and growing threat: Trump and Moon
US President Donald Trump and his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-In today agreed that North Korea poses a "grave and growing direct threat" to most of the world as the two leaders in a telephone call welcomed the new sanctions imposed on Pyongyang by the UNSC. The phone call comes a day after the United Nations Security Council voted unanimously to increase sanctions on North Korea for its continued intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) testing and violations of UN resolutions. They discussed North Korea's July 28 launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile, the White House said. "The two leaders affirmed that North Korea poses a grave and growing direct threat to the United States, South Korea, and Japan, as well as to most countries in the world," the White House said.
