Allow yourself the freedom of flat shoes as you say goodbye to troublesome heels. Pranika Sharma helps you style flats for every occasion

Women go through a load of pain and suffering in their wardrobe choices and to top it off, we put ourselves through additional torture by wearing high heels, if only to look good! Even though high heels look classy and accentuate your posture, they can be torturous if worn even for a few hours. They get unbearable after a while and you just want to get home and fling them off. If you’re at your wits end over high heels, try these flat styles to pair with your dresses.

Practical footwear

Sneakers are your best friend when you need to wear something practical and comfortable. They match up perfectly with any kind of dress and make for a stylish, modern look. Pair plain white sneakers with a floral dress and you should be ready for a day out!

Notching it up

Loafers are elegant and classy, and they keep you free from pain. They are a great pick for the office and will keep you comfortable even in formal situations. Ditch the high-heeled pumps to give your feet some breathing room. Wear loafers with a fitting formal dress or go a little funky and experiment with colour.

The traditional type

Mojaris are great traditional-wear for the wedding season, but they can fill in as daily wear too. We are proud Indians and why should we not showcase our traditional attire? So, go for an Indo-Western look as you style your outfit with fancy mojaris or kolapuris. Pair your mojaris with an ankle-length dress with bright and colourful Indian prints when stepping out for a coffee date with friends.

Buckle it up

For a vintage look go for simple buckled-up sandals paired with simple dresses. The various styles, such as peep toes, strapped or simple slip-ons, have contrasting designs and colours, which will help complete your look. They are practical, stylish and match perfectly with your dresses and you don’t have to keep your feet slopped in those heels.

Pseudo loafers

Mules are the new loafer. They are meant for a sophisticated but casual look and can be worn to suit formal or casual dresses. They give your feet enough breathing room while providing ample coverage. Pick jazzy ones for nights out as you dance away your worries, or simple black ones for style at work.

The ballerina in you

Ballet flats never go out of style. They are the perfect formal wear for any event and they work well with all kinds of dresses, giving off a vintage vibe. Since they are closed shoes, they provide adequate comfort and keep your feet protected. Pick ballerina shoes in solid colours, but if you want to be a tad brave, go for something with a floral pattern or a contemporary design.

Lazy days

Flip-flops are a girl’s best friend. If you’re having a lazy day and don’t want to squeeze your feet into unforgiving wedges, work with fancy flip-flops instead. They are a practical option and can be matched up with any dress, be it long, short, body fit or A-line. You can experiment with the many different styles, designs, patterns and colours if you are looking to funk up your look. They work best with a light cotton dress and will give you the weekend feels.

Contemporary chic

Espadrilles — casual flats with a canvas fabric covering the top part — are the epitome of comfort and the perfect pick if you want to make a style statement. Available in solid colours, these shoes are sure to complement any dress they are paired with. Their rope sole gives them a rather raw look, making them stand out.
