Night walk for safety

Thursday, May 17, 2018

Srishti Bakshi, who has completed a 3,800-km walk for women’s safety, is in the city to spread her message

Srishti Bakshi, who has just finished her 3800-kilometre walk (on a foot journey) from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, is in Mumbai to spread awareness for women’s safety and empowerment. The initiative, Crossbow Miles, is being held in collaboration with the National Commission for Women and The Hans Foundation; on Saturday, May 19, they have organised a Night Walk for Women’s Safety in Mumbai.

Srishti, who has received the 26th Commonwealth Point of Light in honour of her exceptional service to empowering women in India, is the founder and Managing Director of CrossBow. The social enterprise is focussed on re-labelling impact funds, from donations to investments. In 2016 she decided to put her skills and knowledge set to use for the benefit of humanity and started on this journey as a Champion for Change with Empower Women Initiative by United Nations Women.

Crossbow Miles is a movement conceptualised and established in 2016. On September 15,  2017, Srishti along with team CrossBow Miles, embarked on the 3,800 km on-foot journey across India from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu to Srinagar, Kashmir mobilizing citizens along the way to make India a safer country for girls and women, and to sensitize citizens to the gender divide in the country. The journey ended on May 2, 2018, but the movement to make the country safer and better for girls and women continues.

Join Srishti Bakshi and other participants for the night walk on the streets of Mumbai, in a bid to @MakeYourCitySafe. Bollywood celebrities like Sushmita Sen, Dia Mirza and others will be among the participants. The Walk aims to instil confidence in women that it’s everyone’s right to walk safely even in darkness of the night.

Open to all across the world, the Crossbow Miles movement urges people to walk for the cause and collects the steps via an app, which then helps tap into support and resources for various organisations that are working for women’s empowerment, among other things.

Crossbow is a mass outreach and engagement platform tailored for cause-driven campaigns. It has a special focus on analytics, which can make a paradigm shift in how funds flow to impact campaigns and projects. Srishti delved deep into the millennial mind-set – the I-Care generation.

In Mumbai, Srishti and her team plan to share with the city their experiences from on the road and also spread their message to its residents through key events which have also been organised across the the country.
