If you have a lean physique, we know you look at Sofia Vergara’s curves with awe and envy. While recreating her magical curves is close to impossible, Purva Indulkar & Khevna Pandit help you create the illusion of curves with a few tweaks to your wardrobe
We think that all bodies are beautiful, but it is perfectly natural to want what you don’t have. So, those with svelte silhouettes may want va-va-voom curves, while Marilyn Monroe lookalikes wish they had Twiggy’s slim pins. We don’t recommend trying to change your body type, but you can make a few changes in your wardrobe! With a few clever outfit combinations, the right choices and correct placement of accessories, you can still pretend to rock a more curvy look. We asked fashion designers Ridhi Arora and Masumi Mewawalla for advice.
Prints and patterns
When it comes to prints, Masumi thinks you should experiment a little. “Leaner girls should try horizontal stripes, opt for bigger prints and ditch black, monotone outfits for a more colourful ensemble,” she says. You should also change the kind of clothes you shop for. Ridhi tells us, “Leaner girls who want to look curvier and puffier should buy dresses with peplums, cancan gowns and wear puffed sleeves. Even an A-line dress can work wonders!”
When putting an outfit together, the combinations and proportions matter a lot, so wear clothing that separates your body into sections. Ridhi explains, “When it comes to dresses and tops, wear peplums and floating, bouncy dresses as they add a natural waist to your look. When picking bottoms, stick to flared trousers, wide palazzos and bootlegged jeans.”
Ridhi tells us, “Leaner girls have leaner features; so chunky earrings, heavy neckpieces and stacking bangles or bracelets make them look curvier. When it comes to jewellery, try wearing pearls or Swarovski crystal. They add grace to your look that curvier girls naturally have.” Masumi, on the other hand, tells us how to use accessories to divide our bodies. She says, “If you are wearing a dress or a long tunic, add a belt to it to bring attention to your cinched waist. You can also wear a large tote bag or carry a stole around your neck to give the illusion of a toned midriff.”
