REGAINING THE LOST SPARK

Hi, I am a 28-year-old woman working in a tech company. Of late, I’ve been feeling less content with my job and I feel like the quality of my work has been affected because of it. My job is starting to feel monotonous. How do I improve my work? Or should I quit?
– Sheetal Shah, Goregaon
Dear Sheetal,

If you’ve been doing the same job for a long time it can get monotonous and less interesting, especially if your job doesn’t provide you with new challenges. Taking a break once in a while is important. Take advantage of long weekends to relax and take time to unwind. Work on personal projects or simply spend time with your friends. If this doesn’t help, your best option is switching to a more exciting job. Make a list of the kind of work that excites you or the kind of responsibility you want. Does taking the lead excite you or do you prefer working on technically challenging projects? Figure out what you want to do. You can also talk to your current boss and exchange responsibilities with someone. If you decide to quit your job, make sure you know what you are looking for in a new job. Finding your dream job will take time, but in the meantime, look for a part-time job or freelancing project to keep you busy. And, don’t forget to explore new avenues and interests to understand what you want to do in the future.
