Nayntara Thacker’s thoughtfully designed trunk show had products across categories and price points

The ‘Exclusive Trunk Show’ by Nayntara Thacker was a luxurious show sprinkled with a fair amount of stardust—the way an exhibition in a plush South Mumbai locale is supposed to be. However, what caught one’s attention was the variety on display. The showcase included everything from candles to bed linens to luggage bags for globe-trotters to gifting items to designer clothes for the upcoming festive season to blingy jewellery.

The thoughtfully designed exhibition, held at The Imperial Club on September 10, was curated with both sense and sensibility.

In the curator, Nayntara Thacker’s, own words, “Every time I visited an exhibition, I had to go through a lot of things that did not appeal before finding the real gems. The idea behind my ‘trunk show’ was to display the ‘rarest of the rare’ and also to keep in mind that the offer should be across categories and price points. For example, we had clothes for kids—Western and occasion—gifting, home, health, and, of course, clothes and accessories. I also felt the need to offer my friends a controlled retail environment. Hence, not only did I choose the right participants but also ensured the right temperature, availability of adequate food and beverages and at no point was the place too busy or noisy. In fact, it seemed like you were invited to the home of a friend and there was always the right buzz.” The curator herself hosted a stall for the finest of Egyptian cottons in the range of modern to the ornate and traditional bed furnishings for categories such as sheets, pillow cases and duvets.

A simple walk-through could make you feel rich. Prices at the exhibition started with a couple of hundreds for items like hand-made envelopes and ranged up to Rs 10 lakh for exclusive luxe luggage, which apparently were much sought after.

Singer Kanika Kapoor, who is rumoured to launch an outlet soon, had a stall with dresses fit for a red-carpet event and were displayed by women who almost looked like mannequins.

The exhibition was attended by the who’s who of Mumbai. The Roja famed actress Madhoo Shah, famous singer who showcased her own collection at the exhibition Kanika Kapoor, Anaita Shroff Adajania, ace fashion Designer Arpita Mehta, socialite Kaykasshan Patel, Simone and Delna Poonawalla, Tanya Chhabria, Samyukta Nair of the Leela Group were some of the known faces at the event.
