Popular actor, director, producer and 'techie' Abhijeet Satam (son of versatile veteran actor Shivaji ('CID') Satam) who is associated with many plays and soaps including 'Strawberry' and 'Ek Shoonya Teen', is essaying the lead role in a anew Marathi TV serial 'Shatda Prem Karave' on 'Star Pravah', Monday-Saturday at 8.00 pm. He spoke exclusively to ADC. Excerpts:

Tell us about ‘Shatada Prem Karave’
It is a very refreshing love story of two distinct characters Unmesh and Sayali, based on age difference. It makes home-viewers to see true love through a new lens where it knows no boundaries and is ageless. My character is ambitious and conservative, while Sneha Shah’s (Sayali) character is more adorable and carefree.

How did you bag this role?
I got a call from our producer Smruti Shinde offering me the role of Unmesh. I was hesitant but she was sure that and I accepted it. In fact, this was the decision of three women... Smruti, Programming Head Shrabani-jee Deodhar and my wife Madhura, who pressurised me to accept the role.

What sort of reactions you are receiving from your fans?
Most of the people who have watched the show are very happy and positive about the show and me playing a role in it.

Which are your forthcoming projects?
There are two feature films, one with Mahesh Manjrekar and the other with new director Shibu Sable. Both are of different genre. Also, a new theatre play, still untitled, is in the offing. On the tech front, there are many softwares which I am developing for direct consumer platforms and also for government sectors.

How do you juggle between your tech company and passion for producing plays and also acting?
When one wants to do certain thing, he or she seriously does it. One does not feel it's juggling, when time management is handled naturally.

Take us through your career journey so far...
I am working in the entertainment field and I am also computer tech-savvy. I started my career with intercollegiate theatre and won many awards. During the final year of college, I founded a theatre company with my colleague and produced award-winning plays like 'Mukkam Post', 'Bombilwadi', 'Sangeet Lagna Kallol' etc. Our recent productions are – 'Mr and Mrs', 'Strawberry' and 'Ek Shoonya Teen'. Simultaneously, I also worked as actor and director for short films. One of the films ‘Tyre ki Hawaa”, directed by me was selected in international film festivals and also won awards in national short films' competitions. I have co-produced and directed the Marathi feature film 'Haapus', which turned out to be the highest grosser of the year. At the same time I worked on computer tech and co-founded an IT firm 'Comcomm', under which we built platforms for consumer markets.

Do you have any memorable anecdote to share?
One such incident I instantly remember is of my Grandfather, who had a habit of reading 3-4 newspapers a day, from the page one till the last page. As he grew old he couldn’t read them. So he began a deal. He would make me read the newspaper for him and gave me a rupee per page I read. When I recall this memory I get amused, because this 'deal' with grandpa, not only made me an avid reader buy also made me enterprising.

Which was the turning point in your career?
There are many. Because of college festivals, I got introduced to amateur theatre and computer programming as an extracurricular activity. I always say that, I am an official student of MD College and an unofficial student of the IIT-Mumbai where I used to hang out and get a deeper understanding of technology.
