'Pehredaar Piya Ki' abruptly yanked off air!

Thursday, August 31, 2017

Sony TV intimated that  it has abruptly axed "Pehredaar Piya Ki",(PPK) days after Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC) directed it to shift the show in very late night slot from evening prime time. The objectionable serial, which began airing on the channel last month, attracted the audience's wrath over its ‘cradle-snatching’ culture-shocking content, which showed a nine-year old minor boy (Afaan Khan) into a marriage with a 18- year-old adult woman (Tejasswi Prakash).

The insipid show was slammed for being "regressive", with many viewers accusing it for "promoting child marriages."

"Effective August 28, we are pulling off our show, 'PPK', produced by Sumeet Mittal and Shashi Mittal, from television. While we understand that the decision to end this serial will be disappointing to those whose creative energies are vested in it, we (as a channel) are convinced that we will be better served by focusing instead on developing viewer interest in our upcoming, new shows," the Sony channel said in a statement.

An online complaint petition was also launched against the 'PPK ' Sony TV show, produced by Sumeet Mittal and Shashi Mittal, which was signed by lakhs of people, urging the I & B Ministry to 'Ban' it!
