A seasoned film/TV director, writer and actor Sachit Patil, who has already made a mark with quite a few successful Marathi films,  is going strong with his lead role in Marathi TV serial ‘Radha Prem Rangi Rangli’ (Colors). A host of films in which he has acted include: ‘Kyon’ (Hindi), ‘Sab Kuch Hai Kuch Bhi Nahi’ (Hindi), ‘Zenda’ and ‘Classmates’. His directorial ventures include Marathi films: ‘Saade Maade Teen’ and  ‘Kshanbhar Vishranti’.
He spoke exclusively to The Afternoon DC. Excerpts:

By now 'Radha Prem Rangi Rangli' is racing towards 100 episodes. How do you feel working for this soap?
I am very enthusiastic about my role. The serial has not only gained popularity but now it has also been nominated for 'MaTta Sanmaan' in many categories.

Share with us,  the story line of this serial?
The story is based on  marital discord emanating from a theme of an extra-marital affair. But it proves that opposites do attract! When two people have strong affection towards each other differences are too trivial to keep them away from loving each other. 'Radha Prem Rangi Rangli' is all about Radha and Prem, who belong to two different contrasting schools of thought. However, both love their siblings immensely and will go any extent for their happiness.

You are doing this TV soap after a long gap isn’t it?
Yes. I am doing this serial after nearly 14 years. I liked the role and as such I accepted it.

Which have been your earlier TV serials?
I have acted in some of the Marathi TV serials including 'Gharkul', 'Ek Dhaaga Sukhaacha' and  'Aklpit'. But it was long time ago,

What about your directorial ventures?
I had directed and also acted in the film 'Kshanbhar Vishranti'. Besides I also directed another film 'Saade Maade Teen' which was well received.

What about your forthcoming ventures?

The shooting of Marathi film 'Vithal' has already been completed. I am also receiving plenty of offers for Hindi, Marathi soaps as well as films. But 'Radha Prem Rangi Rangli' keeps me engaged for 22-23 days in a month. So at present I am concentrating on that. Probably inApril/May I may begin shooting for new films.

Which has been a turning point in your career?

When I directed the films like 'Saade Maade Teen' and 'Kshanbhar Vishranti' I learned a lot about acting. I can say that my directorial ventures have been turning point in my career.

Any dream role which you would like to essay?

I would like to accept roles which are challenging and the roles which I have not essayed earlier. There is no fun in repeating the work which has already been done. Even my roles in the films like “Zenda”, “Classmate” had grey shades.

Who is your role model?

Not one there are many who inspired me from time to time. They include stalwarts like Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Chatterjee, Sai Paranjape and Rajkumar Hirani in direction. In acting I admire Amitabh Bachchan,  Naseeruddin Shah and Randhir Kapoor, Aamir Khan and of course Thomas (Tom) Hanks.

What about your theatrical-drama background?
I did  B.A. (Philosophy) from Ruparel College which provides the best platform to theatre lovers. I participated in many inter-collegiate contests during my college days. The artists, including Chetan Datar, Sumeet Raghavan, Aadesh Bandekar  and many more, have been contemporaries. I also met my wife Shilpa Pai in the same college.

What career is she pursuing now?
She has been a disciple of Prabha Atre and Shrinivas Khale. She is engaged in playback singing.

What are your hobbies?
I like to watch cricket, listen to music and also dance. But there is hardly any time for extra-curricular activities.
