For all those craving to watch hilarious, wacko, boisterous telly content the popular TV show ‘Comedy Circus’ has made its dramatic comeback after five long years. It is being aired every Saturday-Sunday in the 9.30 pm slot on Sony TV. This time, the show will give birth to a new combo of seasoned and new comedians with laughter-queen Archana Puran Singh and macho dude Sohail Khan taking the judges seat yet again. Produced by Optimystix, the Sony show has been re-invented with dollops  of oomph in the form of  hot-babes Karishma Sharma, Ojaswi Oberoi, Aditi Bhatiya . Replacing Shruti Seth will be vivacious Joanna Robaczewska, the European glam-girl actress as the anglicised Hindi-speaking anchor-host of the show.  The Afternoon DC connected with jovial Joanna for an exclusive candid chat. Excerpts:

How is the response to your Anglicized-accent Hindi anchoring?
It’s overwhelming. Viewers are loving the fact that although I am from Poland and speak the Polish language, I speak fluent Hindi. My co-stars on the ‘Comedy Circus’ show fondly tease me that (laughs),  I speak ‘polish-ed Hindi’ (pun intended).  Senior stalwarts Sohail (Khan) sir, Archana ma’am and even Balraj Syal and Mubeen Saudagar are impressed with my earnest efforts as the show host. As both Ashish Golwalkar ( Sony) and Vipul Shah (Optimystix) commented, that I am, ‘the firangi tadka to the desi laugh-riot curry ’.

How tough is it to make people laugh heartily?
It’s relatively easy to make people ‘shed tears’, but badi mushkil hai to make them laugh-out-loud. Luckily, in ‘Comedy Circus’ I have been given funny Hindi punch-lines, gags and shaayri that have rhyming words and which will have its rib-tickling impact (chuckles). Since the whole maahaul (ambience) is that of a competitive laugh-riot, everyone is charged and waiting for the prize-money to be declared.  Every time ‘judge’ Archana ma’am  bursts out laughing, it’s so infectious and is a treasured compliment-reaction.

How is it that you speak Hindi so well?
That’s because I am a multi-linguist and can speak several European languages and even Chinese. When I was in London, I mastered English. But my emotional connect with Hindi and Bollywood movies has a  back-story. Eventually, when I landed in India, I diligently learnt to converse in Hindi—it’s such a romantic language. Abhi toh kaafi achchi Hindi boll sakti hoon, hai naa? (giggles).

The movie-title  ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ is tattooed on your right upper arm…
(blushes and sighs) It’s while watching this movie ‘KHNH’, as a young girl, I first connected sentimentally with Shah Rukh Khan and with Bollywood, without even understanding the Hindi language. Ever since then, I have been fascinated with Bollywood and my ardent dream was to ‘act’ in a Hindi movie or in a TV show.

How come you didn’t grab assignments as an ‘item-dancer’?
Unlike almost all  girls who come to India from East Europe, I do not wish to be tagged only as an ‘item-dancer’.

That’s because I am a formally trained actress. Since I am also a trained agile dancer I would love to lip-sync and dance to Hindi song as one of the heroines. If there is a dance-centric reality TV show offer, I am game for it, but only as a ‘contestant’.

Aren’t you playing a major role in Sunny Leone’s sensational bio-pic?
Haan jee, in that ‘Zee 5’ web-series I am playing Sunny Leone’s brother’s sultry NRI girl-friend Taniya and it’s an amazing experience out here, as well. Earlier I have also acted in a music-video and in segments of TV show Savdhaan India as a firangi tourist.
