Kill the crab, mingle with my jingle: Pooja Misra

By Chaitanya Padukone

Vivacious yet versatile, sultry yet articulate actress-anchor-VJ-singer-author Pooja Misra (of ‘Jab We Talk’ fame and ‘Bigg Boss season 5’ fame) often gets entangled into controversies and grabs the headlines. Otherwise, she is a chilled-out, multi-faceted, savvy, style-icon who is infamous for being brutally blunt and yet is an altruistic crusader of social welfare. As is apparent with her new, unique upcoming TV talent-hunt show ‘Spare Me The Crab Mentality’. The ‘oomph-oozing’ glib  Pooja reveals her plans as also the highlights of her new telly-show to The Afternoon D&C.  Excerpts:

Share with us about your new upcoming ‘crabbie’ mega telly-show.
The good news is that I have also turned producer and I will soon be launching my new unique talent-hunt TV show ‘Spare Me The Crab Mentality’ on a leading TV channel. Since the past several months, I have been scouting for genuine, talented actors, actresses, models and anyone who has passionate aspirations to be a reality show star! The winner of the show will land a role in my forthcoming ‘edutainment’ feature film titled ‘Jud’ (root).

Would you elaborate some more on this cryptic, yet hard-hitting TV show?
Surely. The eloquent title ‘Spare Me The Crab Mentality’,  is symbolic of what typically happens quite often in show-biz, telly-biz and Bollywood. It signifies this sadistic frustration syndrome which is, “if I can't have it, neither can you" and I hope to eliminate it all, as much as possible. We will get new judges on every episode, from different walks of life whom we call ‘brand evangelists’. With this show, we will be creating not only awareness-exposure but also job opportunities for freshers as well as for eminent names in Bollywood.

The racy ‘jingle’ tune and motivating lyrics sung by you for your TV show ‘Spare Me…’  is being appreciated. Are you a trained singer ?
Hey, thanks. How I wish I was a trained singer. But I have this inherent music and rhythm-sense, as  I excel in hip-hop and contemporary-style dancing with a ‘swag’. Actually, I made my singing debut with this popular ‘lifestyle’ show ‘Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai’ which was on a  Bollywood news channel and I religiously was into singing ‘riyaaz’ for almost six-months for that one-minute jingle. Musical ‘jingles’ connect a lot more with the viewers, with its higher instant recall-value, as compared to teasers with just dialogues or visuals.

Haven’t you also ‘sung’ for your series ‘Love-Sutra’?
Of course, I have hummed for web-series ‘Love Sutra’ which is currently on the Hungama Play-App. It was more of  a tuneful seductive mood whispering, because it’s a sexy, humorous show (laughs). For me, listening and swaying to pulsating ‘dance-tracks’ is a cool stress buster.

Your dance-track ‘Hotter Than You’ is also on popular playlists.
Yes, that’s right, my fans and music buffs love the vibes and energy of my fitness-centric throbbing music-video track. It just gets you on your toes, helps you unwind and shed your tensions as you let your hair down and swipe your dancing feet. Simply shoo away your problems—tell them—‘I am hotter than you’.

Are you open to TV serial roles as an ‘actress’?
Definitely. Provided the TV roles are ’edgy’ and something which excites me. Maybe even a modern, grey-shades but impactful role, but certainly not the ‘saas-bahu silsila’. Being adventurous and fearless, I would love to swing into ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ and being an agile dancer,  maybe I would wish to waltz into a ‘dance reality TV show’.
