Reality show ‘Bigg Boss-11‘ is back  on the telly screens with its charismatic weekend host mega-star Salman Khan, who also alternates as the mentor-arbitrator depending on the situation. The unique volatile, vibrant show, handled by  Endemol Shine India, headed by the innovative Deepak Dhar,  has just started and airs from Monday to Friday at 10.30 pm and on Saturday and Sunday at 9.00 pm on the Colors channel. The confirmed ‘BB-11’ contestants list comprises of TV actor Hiten Tejwani,  actress Shilpa Shinde, rapper Aakash, commoner Jyoti Kumari, TV hottie Hina Khan, Vikas Gupta,  Priyank ‘Splitsvilla’ Sharma, bold model Arshi Khan, model Bandgi Kalra, vivacious  ‘VJ’ Benafsha Soonawala, singer Sapna Chaudhary, Zubair Khan, ‘sensuous taantrik’ Sshivani Durga and Puneesh Sharma. To add to the mushy melodrama and verbal turbulence, there will also be  four padosis (neighbours) in the same confined luxurious residential complex. The Afternoon D&C cornered the sinewy, effervescent ‘Salman-bhai’ for a candid chat. Excerpts:

What is the anokhi khaas baat of Colors ‘Bigg Boss 11’?
As you are aware, we keep deviating. Even the media-launch event of the show was being held exceptionally in an actual elite cooperative housing society lawn, instead of a film studio premises or at some 5-star hotel banquet hall. The ground reality of the show is very high because there is this innovative element this time of ‘love thy neighbour’. So, we will have gharwale and the padosis pitted amongst each other this time. Mind you, nothing is pre-scripted.

What would this padosi-twist offer to home-viewers?
Bahut kuchh which is attention-grabbing and unpredictable. Right from ego-clash-jealousy sparklers, crazy gossip  dhamaaka and verbal fire-works. Vaise bhi Diwali is just round the corner

( chuckles). Overall, there would be a love-hate rishta amongst all the contestants and also with the four neighbours. So, behind the glitter and glamour there would also be  grimy, greasy layers waiting to be exposed by the ‘saare ooparwale cameras ki tezz nazar.’

What would be your multiple roles as the ‘BB-11 host-anchor’?
As is known, I also  alternate as the monitor-mentor-counsellor-arbitrator and of course ‘sorting’ the contestants out as the ‘peacemaker’ depending on my assessment of the situation. But, I absolutely enjoy what I do, although it requires a special stern, tactful acumen combined with a sense of tongue-in-cheek witty  humour and compassion.

What if ‘you’ were coaxed to ‘live-in’ with the contestants?
Honestly, I may just go off on a tangent and I won’t be able to last for even two days. It’s better I remain the external ‘host-dost’ rather than be under ‘confined house-arrest'.

Whispers insist that you often recommend your personal favorites as ‘BB’ contestants. Your comments?
Arre yaar, it doesn’t work that way. There is a stringent selection internal process and I have no direct involvement in it. Of course, I do get to know the confirmed ‘Final List’ well in advance, before I host the first episode. Honestly, I may have only referred some names of potential, promising contestants. But the fastidious producers take the final call based on their own rigid criteria and their team may not even agree with my choices.

What are your expectations from the contestants this time?
Ideally, there should be zero budtameezi  and they should refrain from abusive violence.  At times it’s not in their control, because they are remote-controlled by the outside team. It’s a very difficult format, you need  lots of patience, will-power, sensibility and endurance even as you comply with the game rules. In fact, I also feel that the first-week eviction is unfair, as they hardly get to know each other.
