Around 15 years ago, debonair TV actor Rajeev Khandelwal stirred up a romantic tornado with his endearing lead role as ‘Sujal’ in the TV show ‘Kahiin Toh Hoga’ which had a legion of females swooning over him. A dozen TV shows (last seen in ‘Reporters’), web-series and over ten movies over the years, Rajeev who impressed as the suave anchor in the daring, bohemian, grilling TV reality series ‘Sachh Ka Saamna’, returns once again as the articulate host of the latest telly-chat show ‘JuzzBaatt…Sangeen Se Namkeen Tak’ which will premiere this Saturday, May 5, 2018, and will be aired every Saturday and Sunday at 7 pm on Zee TV.  Afternoon D&C had a lively conversation with the smart-witted, outspoken Rajeev. Excerpts:

Hi Rajeev, what is the funda behind this new Zee show ‘JuzzBaatt..’?
Hmm…in real life almost everything begins with, and revolves around sentiments and emotions, which we often keep talking about. That’s how this innovative word has been coined by the Zee creative team, where we also ‘speak about emotions’.

Wouldn’t that be rather mushy and a bit bland?
Not at all. Because there’s much more to it as the tagline says ‘sangeen se namkeen tak’. Which means the topics and factual information shared by the celeb-guests will be peppered with spicy, humourous and startling baatein as well. And then Indian home audiences love to hear heartening yet inspirational tales of nostalgia, failure, success, relationships and coping with crisis. It’s a colourful spectrum, actually.

What are the entertaining elements of this TV chat-show?
Almost every curious TV series fan loves to figure out ‘little-known- stuff’ about their favourite idols  or stars ‘off-screen’ life. It’s an exhilarating eye-opener for the ardent fans when they discover how grounded and relatable, their favourite stars are in their ‘real life’ besides the chatpatta baat-cheeth.

Will you be grilling the celeb-guests?
(Laughs) This time, I am more of a ‘dost’ and not the tough-talking host, so no grilling. In fact, I will help the guests freely ‘open up’ and I will steer the conversation.

Who are some of the showbiz celebs featured in this show?
Kaafi saare! Rohit and Ronit Roy, Divyanka Tripathi, Ram Kapoor, Vivek Dahiya, Sudeep Sahir, Saakshi Tanwar and even sports stars and maybe political leaders are expected according to the channel. We will also connect with those aam aadmi ‘unsung heroes’, who have been instrumental behind the success of each of these celebs.

What are your personal sentiments hosting this new Zee show?
Honestly speaking I am very nervous, as I make my comeback as a TV host. Yet I am equally ‘super-excited’ because I am enjoying the whole process of making an emotional connect with viewers. It’s a major creative challenge for me as it’s a very fluid and dynamic show. Also because our new show has a similar yet tweaked, reinvented format of the yesteryear (2002) Zee TV iconic chat show ‘Jeena Isika Naam Hai’, then hosted by the legendary (‘late’) actor Farooq Sheikh.
