‘Darna manaa hai--in our awesome action TV show’: Rohit Shetty

Macho action-king and TV host of ‘Fear Factor--Khatron Ke Khiladi’ on Colors channel, Rohit Shetty, is emotionally euphoric with the overwhelming audience response to his directorial action-thriller super-hit movie ‘Simmba’. Not one to rest on his laurels and take it easy, the resilient Rohit will bounce back on TV screens with ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi-9’ which premieres this Saturday (January 5) and will air every Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm on Colors. The Afternoon D&C had an engaging chat with ‘showman’ Rohit, who although being is a ‘tough taskmaster’, is otherwise courteously unassuming. Excerpts:

What should the audiences expect this time in ‘KKK-9’
Expect the unexpected (laughs). The theme iss baar is ‘jigar-pey-trigger’! In the wilderness of Argentina, a dozen daredevil challengers will test their grit and give the best ‘performance’ of their lives being totally unprepared. Unseen breath-taking real stunts that too in adverse freezing climate conditions. None of the contestants are stunt-savvy, but they dared to get rid of their ‘phobias’. In our show ‘Darna Manaa Hai’. (chuckles).

This time the dozen contestants are a quirky yet merry mix, isnt it?
That’s right. Whether it is Bigg Boss fame Vikas Gupta and Sreesanth, dance sensation Puneet Pathak or the lissome Shamita Shetty, every contestant will fight to win the coveted title. Joining them are TV’s first lady of wild-wacko comedy Bharti Singh with real-life husband Harsh Limbachiya. For the glam-quotient, telly beauties Jasmine Bhasin, Ridhima Pandit and Avika Gor and the heart-throbs of the small screen Aly Gony, Zain Imam and of course the talkathon singer-anchor Aditya Narayan.

Isn’t roly-poly Bharti Singh an apparent ‘misfit’ in this action-stunts spaghetti?
Looks can be deceptive. Actually the shock-value is that enthusiastic Bharti is ‘pretty tough’, adventurous and proved to be a daring darling of the show. There were some stunts which others found it too difficult, but Bharti managed to execute them even though she got injured. With her witty punch-lines, funny mimic voices and antics she will also add the ‘LOL’ humour quotient to the Colors ‘KKK-9’ show. It’s an entertaining family show package.

The contestants are appreciating the vigilant safety that you ensured as a host-cum-mentor-dost, all through the gruelling contest. What does that mean to you?
The daring dozen were, I guess fully prepared for the mentally taxing and physically demanding rigours of the grueling game. But ensuring their safety at all times was my moral responsibility as their motivating mentor. Some of the female contestants were even crying with delight after they safely completed the stunts. Being an action-master myself, I saw to it that except maybe for a few injuries, bruises or ‘love-bites’ from the creepy crawlies (laughs), all of them came back to India sahi-salaamat.

Hypothetically, what if ‘stud-star’ Ranveer Singh was included in ‘KKK-9’?
Undoubtedly, Ranveer would have emerged the most lovable contestant. With his gutsy swag and bursts of energy, he would taken the ‘’KKK’ show to a very high level. Possibly, he would have easily been among the top-favourite contenders expected to win the contest.
