A brilliant actress known for her spontaneity and ravishing screen-presence, Kareena Kapoor -Khan who has acted in dozens of amazing Bollywood movies is passionate about dancing as well. The super-talented grand-daughter of legendary showman Raj Kapoor, Kareena has proved her dancing calibre in umpteen filmy gaane. Especially in the recent raunchy yet sensuous ‘Fevicol Sey’ (‘Dabangg-2’) or in the past for her graceful movements in the foot-tapping track of ‘Yeh Ishq Hai’ (‘Jab We Met’) or even in ‘You are my Soniya’ (‘K3G’ ) where she matched perfect steps with the awesome dance-maestro Hrithik Roshan. The charismatic Kareena has now plunged into reality TV with her dazzling debut as a co-judge in the upcoming Zee TV dance reality show ‘Dance India Dance’– Battle of the Champions. The Afternoon D&C interacted with the candid yet witty Kareena (aka Bebo) for a quick chat. Excerpts:

How does it feel now that you have made your debut-dive into the swirling waters of the telly-screen?
Honestly, I was and still am more nervous than the competing contestants (shrugs and smiles) that I am co-judging this magnificent mega TV dance-centric show.

Surely you have previously received scores of reality TV shows offers isn’t it?
Yes, of course, since past five years or so, there were lots of TV shows offers. But I was quite hesitant and diffident because I feel TV is a challenging medium. Because you are directly reaching out to the masses, stepping into their homes and into their hearts. It’s quite overwhelming.

What’s special about ‘D-I-D’ on Zee that you grabbed it?
When I was offered this show, I was aware that ‘D I D’ has always been the ideal platform for the potential talent of the ‘mango-people’, I mean the aam janata (smiles). In ‘DID’ they have this 360-degree stage and 200-plus cameras and it’s the longest running reality supreme dance-show. What better platform than ‘Dance India India’ could I expect to make my TV debut with.

Frankly speaking, Bebo, being a fabulous on-screen dancer, what does dancing mean to you?
An expression of positivity, creative energy and enjoyable fun. Actually, I have been so fortunate to get some really cool chartbusting Bollywood movie songs to perform all through my career. Then there has been the support of ace choreographers like Bosco Martis, who is now my co-judge in this season of ‘DID’. Even in this show with such vibrant co-judges like Bosco and zestful rapper-performer-dancer Raftaar with dynamic actor Dheeraj Dhoopar as the witty, exuberant host it’s gonna be a rollercoaster of live fun.

With your cho-chweet iconic baby Taimur to look after, would you be able to manage the gruelling l-o-n-g hours of TV show-shoots?
That’s right I am definitely not in favour of long hours of shoots of over eight hours at a stretch. Occasional, one can make an exception but not always. Out here, it’s once a week and the crew as also my co-judges are very supportive. I am already enjoying myself on the sets, having a merry blast.

Grandmaster Mithun-da Chakraborty will be ‘missed’ on the ‘DID’ show …
Yes certainly, we will all miss Mithun-da. But you never know, we might still get him back for an episode. And I have always been a huge fan of Mithun-da.
