Super-talented ‘hottie’ oomph-girl Riya Sen seems to have conquered the OTT digital web-zone. Recently she was seen in web-shows like Alt Balaji’s Ragini MMS’. Currently, the sensuous style-icon Riya has just finished shooting for this Zee 5 original finite multi-starrer web-show called ‘Poison’ which is already trending big-time, ever since it started streaming from April 19th. This slick ‘Zee 5’ web-thriller ‘Poison’ is directed by the seasoned film-maker Jatin Wagle whose father Satish Wagle was an eminent producer of classic retro-movies like the Amitabh-Rajesh starrer ‘Namak Haram’ etc. The Afternoon D&C cornered the articulate Riya for a crispy chat. Excerpts:

Why this safe-distance from TV and fascination for the digital web-zone?
For the past eight years, I have always been wanting to act in the digital zone in maverick shows with decent. quality content. My previous ‘major’ web assignments were Alt Balaji’s ‘Ragini MMS’, ‘Alisha’, Pati Patni AurWoh, ‘MisMatch-2’ and now it’s ‘Poison’ on Zee 5. And I am simply loving it—its super-exciting. Undoubtedly, TV is a pan-India medium-of-the-masses, but I feel I am not really ever ‘cut out’ for both reality and fiction TV shows.

What is it that impressed you, to grab ‘Poison’?
Honestly, I always wanted to work with ‘Zee 5’ because even my sister Raima has also worked in their short film. When their top boss Tarun Katiyal approached me for this ‘Poison’ series, I had blind faith in him and I said ‘yes’ to this show without even knowing what my role was.

Your role in ‘Poison’ seems to be oomph-oozing isn’t it?
Thanks. It’s a subtle glam quotient as a chic business-executive called Natasha. There are multiple layers to my complex character especially when I am entangled between the dramatic clash between both lead characters of Arbaaz Khan who plays the mafia-don and Freddy Daruwala who plays the role of an ‘ACP’. Then there’s Tanuj Virwani who plays the vindictive-man-with-a-mission besides Archana Gupta and Pranati Rai Prakash. Actually, ‘Poison’ is a relatable subject, a slick dark thriller mostly set in Goa and is a must-watch for every age-group. It’s made like a Bollywood crime-thriller-suspense ‘masala’ movie by director Jatin Wagle who briefed us that anything in ‘excess’ results in the ‘poison’ negative element in one’s life. it could be lust, greed, ambition, power.

How is Arbaaz Khan as a co-star?
Although he plays the menacing mafia-don, off-screen Arbaaz is gentle and courteous. But then I have known him personally over the years. It was like an extended family and we shared a warm rapport.

What does ‘Poison’ signify to you in real-life?
Someone who is scheming, manipulative with toxic ulterior motives yet intelligent in his wicked moves.

Your gorgeous mom star-MP Moon Moon Sen is contesting in the elections--have you also been drawn towards politics?
Not really, because I immensely love what I am doing right now. Besides I love travelling and am studying fashion and there’s already a lot on my career-plate now. When I go on canvassing-campaigns with my mother, then I sometimes feel, euphoric that I should be here too. After giving all those extempore socially-influencing speeches, I sometimes feel maybe in future I should step into politics. Let’s see what destiny holds for me in future. Frankly I feel strongly about imparting free education, hygienic public-toilets at every junction and for encouraging planned smaller families.
