Pune, Mumbai to clash in sub-junior girls finals

Mumbai: Pune District and Mumbai District comfortably sailed into the Sub-Junior girls finals of the WIFA organized Maharashtra State Inter-District Football Championships played at Jalgaon on Tuesday.

In the first semi-final, Pune overcame Kolhapur 3-1 with Poorva Gaikwad (3rd min), Swara Pathak (17th) and Karanti More (54th) scoring the goals, while Kolhapur pulled one back through Samruddhi Kotkale (53rd).

The second semi-final was a one-sided contest as Mumbai stormed to an emphatic 8-0 win against the hapless Solapur girls. Strikers
Strikers Jhanvi Shetty and Sai Sankhe, both netted a brace of goals while Bhumika Mane, Christine Nazereth, Riddhi Mehra and Priyanka Suyesh chipped in with one each to complete Mumbai’s big victory. Mumbai District also recorded a facile 7-0 win against Satara District in a Sub-junior boys match played at Palghar. Johnson Mathews led Mumbai charge with a hat-trick while Aman Gaikwad netted two and Twain Fernandes and Bhupathi Chandra scored one each to round off the winning tally.

Paramjeet, Awdesh squash champs
Favourites Paramjeet Singh and Awdesh Yadav eased to a convincing 2-0 victory to emerge champions, in the ISP-Pratik Enterprise Doubles Handicap Squash Tournament, at the Navi Mumbai Sports Association.

Singh and Yadav lived up to their reputations with a 11-6, 11-8 win over Arun Sharma and Rahul Arora, after the top two seeds made a premature exit. Both finalists laboured to reach the championship round though with hard-fought wins in the deciders.

Results: Final: Awdesh Yadav/Paramjeet Singh bt Arun Sharma/Rahul Arora 11-6, 11-8. Semi-finals: Awdesh Yadav/Paramjeet Singh bt Bhavesh Shah/Mahendra Salvi 11-9, 8-11, 11-0; Arun Sharma/Rahul Arora bt Vijay Darak/Sandeep Merani 8-11, 11-9, 11-7.
Lokhandwala FC, Joga A, B in last 8

Lokhandwala FC and favourites Joga Bonito A and B teams stormed into the pre-quarter-finals, in the Rs. 1 lakh Tiki Taka 5-a-Side football tournament.
Lokhandwala qualified from Group A with the highest tally of 12 points following a clean sweep in the round robin, while The Blues were second with nine points.

In Group B, Joga Bonito A won all their matches to top the group with nine points. Pablo FC finished second with six points. With three wins and a draw, Joga Bonito B qualified from Group D with 10 points, while United FC ended second, also with 10 points.
