Mumbai: England pulled off a comfortable win by three wickets in a closely contested warm-up match against the Mahendra Singh Dhoni led India ‘A’ who managed to pile on 304 for four wickets after been put in to bat by England.
Opener Shikhar Dhawan [63 runs] and Ambati Rayudu [100 retired] piled on a century stand for the second wicket after losing Mandeep Singh for eight. Yuvraj Singh who was aggregating 84 in Ranji Trophy scored a bristling 56. Skipper MS Dhoni finished the India ‘A’ sojourn with an entertaining unbeaten 68 runs out of which 25 runs came in the last over.
It was an easy chase for England as they got off to a good start with the opening wicket contributing 95 runs which came off more than a run-a-ball. Jason Roy scored 62 which laid the foundation for Sam Billings to capitalize. Despite Hales and skipper Eoin Morgan falling in quick succession, Billings held ground with Jos Butler [46 runs] and built a 79-run partnershi before Butler was sent packing by a chinaman from Kuldeep Yadav. Yadav caught Liam Dawson off his own bowling against the run of play.
Billings who was playing the anchor role got his stumps knocked out by Hardik Pandya for a classy 93 leaving the tail to complete the task.
Kuldeep Yadav scalped five wickets for 60 runs - an indication to the selectors akin to Rayudu’s ton who too isn’t a part of the ODI sor the T20 quads to be played against England.
