Make your small bathroom appear bigger

Wish your small bathroom were large and luxurious? Nowadays, there are a number of houses being built with tiny bathrooms; some of them are hardly bigger than a closet. Most people don’t have the luxury of owning huge bathrooms, and they have to think of alternative ways to make them look more spacious. While planning for remodeling the existing bathroom, one may have to think about its function, appearance, fixtures and storage along with it how much one can spend on it. With a bit of visual magic, colour change, and lighting, you can transform your small bath into a cozy retreat.

Colour schemes
Believe it or not, colour schemes can really make a difference: light tones, such as white, can make your bathroom look larger.

Heavy lighting would make the bathroom look bigger. More expensive alternatives for bringing more light into the room would be skylights and larger windows. Placing bathroom mirrors opposite each other is one of the old space-creating tricks that do wonders to small bathrooms. It gives the illusion of never- ending space. This definitely makes the place appear larger than it is. A long mirror can also be hung in the bathroom.

Tiles matter
Surprisingly, large floor tiles make a small bathroom look bigger. Choose a textured tile to prevent slipping or anti-skid tile. But remember to choose a light-coloured flooring. Cover the skirt of the bathtub with a smaller version of the floor tile. Lay down an area rug if replacing tile is too costly. Try to use every inch. Remove wall shelves, hanging racks, or decorative accessories on the walls that cut into the room and make it look smaller. Stick robe hooks and a laundry bag on the back of the bathroom door. Removing cabinet doors also creates the illusion of more space.

You would also be surprised of the amount of items in the bathroom that you don’t actually need: Do hairstyling accessories really need to be there? Will you really use all those extra towels? Your bathroom is in fact cramped with unnecessary accessories, which need to be removed in order to make the space fresh and airy.

A clean, neat bathroom always looks larger and more spacious than a cluttered, dirty one! Have only essential must-haves visible and put away everything else. Spend some time to organise storage areas in a linen closet or vanity to make the most of what you have.
