It is now a known fact  how technology has simplified our daily lives. From our personal needs to our professional commitments, everything has now become real time manageable due to smartphones. And with technology evolving, it will further keep on simplifying and redefining our way of life. One of the major areas of concern has been managing of our homes and having control of important aspects like home and people security, energy saving and device or appliance management.

The concept of home automation is not new for our country but with the evolving technology and new age startups’ redefining processes and products, home automation segment has witnessed a huge boost in the last few years. The slow moving segment is now expected to be INR 30,000 crore market in the next two years with strong demand arising from Tier 1 & 11 locations, adding on the growing demand of the metro cities.

The four decade old wire based home automation segment hardly saw any development till new age tech based startups redefined consumer deliverables. The segment focused only on ease of operations and many of the consumers faced service issues as most of the manufacturers were not India based and local available products faced many consumer concerns on product quality, installation process (re-wiring) and product safety.

Home automation developers are now moving beyond the concept of ease of operations to delivering affordable, value driven and quality products that can be easily integrated to the existing system. These wireless and wi-fi based plug & play devices can be connected with existing home products like air-conditioners, fan and light units and water heaters amongst others and can be controlled, programmed and monitored through smartphone applications. These devices can also be easily integrated with voice based devices like Amazon Alexa or Google Home.

One of the major highlights of the new age home automation products is that they are now been designed and developed to provide energy savings, and most of the products claim to save nearly 25% of electricity upon utilization, a major monetary saving for most of the Indian households.

How do home automation products provide monetary savings?

New age home automation products are app controlled with the only basic requirement for installing these products is the need of owning a smartphone and, today, nearly everyone owns one. These app controls are designed for information, warning, programming and switch control of all devices connected to it. The user has complete control of these devices even from a remote distance to gain real time access and manage them. He can even time control the usage of certain devices, mostly air conditioners and fans, to control usage as required. Programming device usage controls energy usage and this has proven, over time and across devices, to provide monetary savings through controlled current usage. For example, the user will receive alerts if the geyser is on for over 45 minutes or pre-defined time, ac temperature can be configured to increase post midnight to save energy and motion sensor can detect presence or no presence and function accordingly.

Home security, another area of major concern, is now been simplified through motion sensor devices, live video feeds, biometric or face recognition lock panels. These devices, incase of security breach, provide warnings on your handheld devices for further action.

The new age home automation devices have evolved to create a complete smart home experience for users.
