The Flame Burns Bright
The Parsi Community is laced into the tapestry of Mumbai. Their business acumen, their unique customs, usually gentle ways and drastically dropping numbers are some of the reasons, their culture remains fascinating.
Agiaries and Atash Behrams are the spiritual Fire Temples of the Parsis, where they go to bow their heads in prayer. Cordoned off from the cacophony of the city that surrounds them, these places of worship along with other Wells and places of prayer are always well maintained. Open to only Community members, from these places of worship, wafts out the fragrance of sandalwood. As Parsi New Year approaches, the Community visits their local Agiaries and Atash Behrams to pay their respects to the departed, just before the new year begins. These are called the days of the Muktad.
The Afternoon D&C ace lensman, Azad Shrivastav visited the most prominent places of prayer for the Zoroastrian Parsi Community of Mumbai and captured the splendor of the facades of these ancient bricks in the foundation of Mumbai architecture.
