SASSON DOCK SPORTS A GRAND NEW ST+ART!
At 142 years old, the Sassoon Dock at Colaba is one of Mumbai's oldest fishing docks. Visit it at five in the morning and you'll find it brimming with life - fishermen unloading their boats, Koli women auctioning off their catch. But most Mumbaikars have never visited the docks, and the average city dweller is oblivious to the frenetic activity and the life that breathes through the area. This is what the St+Art Foundation, in collaboration with the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT), hopes to change through a public art exhibition at Sassoon Docks that lasts till December 8. Thirty artists, both Indian and international, have been at work for weeks setting up their installations, murals and audiovisual experiences across what used to be an underused warehouse overlooking the port. Over the next few weekends, they have events including workshops, talks, screenings and a celebration of hip hop culture planned in collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board as well as Bonjour India.

The Afternoon Despatch & Courier Photographer Santosh Gupta captures images from the art exhibition.
