Pudchya Varshi Lavkar Ya!
Amidst a downpour on Thursday, also marked as ‘Anant Chaturdashi’ - the last day of the Ganesh festival, lakhs of devotees were seen participating in the ‘Visarjan’ (immersion) processions in various parts of the city, which finally culminated at the waterfronts including the Girgaum Chowpatty, Shivaji Park and other beaches in the suburbs.
As chants of 'Ganpati bappa morya, pudcha varshi laukar ya' filled the air, beautiful idols were taken to the sea for immersion.
The rain could not dampen the spirit of the revelers, who were seen on the streets singing and dancing, while bidding final adieu to Lord Ganesha. Lalbaug, Parel – Kalachowkie was dubbed as the epicentre of Ganesh festivities, as it rained heavily.
The processions lasted for the more than 24-30 hours with devotees and chief of all Ganesh Mandals immersing their deities in to the sea, natural or artificial ponds. Politicians, activists and social workers took on the streets to compete with each other distributing tea, water and guess what?, even burgers!
