Lamps, Fireworks & Frolic!
Three more days to go until Diwali begins and the city will soon witness the glorious celebration of lights all over! ‘Deepaval’i or ‘Diwali’, popularly known as the Hindu festival of lights that is observed every year during the autumn season, falls in the end of the October month or in the first 15 days of November.Mumbai, the country's largest city which never sleeps, is ever so active and ever so blessed with different kinds of cultures with their diverse ways of observing every Indian festival.’ Diwali’ one of the most vibrant and highly-celebrated festivals is observed by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists. Afternoon D&C photographers, Shyam Iyer, Trupti Arekar and Santosh Gupta spend time in the busy lanes and streets of Mumbai, not just in the city but other parts, specifically the Kumbarwadi area at Kalyan, that has been effectively captured. What one witnesses and feels are the radiant and scintillating vibes that arwe being exuded by these vendors and special designers. As seen in the pictures, while the busy workers are all engrossed in the making of statues honouring the Indian warrior King, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, there are also the designed ‘kandils’ (lanterns), the making of ‘diyas’ (miniature lamps) and women preparing freshly fried 'Sev' on the spot, all of these images vividly bringing alive the festive season! Celebrate & spread the cheer...
