Demonetisation shutting down power loom units
By Narendra Gupta
Due to demonitisation, many workers from the power loom units, returned back to their villages. Thousands of power loom units have shut down. Even the owners of the power loom unit are unable to pay their workers as they don’t have sufficient funds. Those who remained back are struggling to make ends meet by doing half duty.
Talking to Afternoon D&C, Jahid Sheth, who is a power loom unit owner said, “Before demonetisation, in my unit their were 15 workers, now only five are left. The small unit owners are shutting down due to shortage of the new currency.”
Mustaque Shah (30) who is a worker in one of the power loom units said, “In my unit, earlier 48 power loom machines were run by six workers but now only four looms are run by one worker. Earlier I used to get Rs 15,000 salary per month after serving 12 hours but now, I get only Rs 5,000”.
