Cabinet approves transgender bill
New Delhi:
The Union Cabinet yesterday approved a bill which provides a mechanism for social, economic and educational empowerment of transgenders by defining their identity and rights to prohibit discrimination against them.

Three arrested with fake currency notes in Jodhpur
Jodhpur:
The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajasthan police has arrested three persons with fake Indian currency notes having a face value of Rs 96,000, a senior official said here yesterday. The fake notes were in the denomination of Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 500, he said.

Minor dalit girl raped, impregnated, five booked
Mangaluru:
Five people have been booked on charges of raping a minor dalit girl from Vittal in Dakshina Kannada district, police sources said yesterday. The 17-year-old girl is now six months pregnant following the continuous sexual assault by five men in the area since December last, they said.

Woman shot at by parents, uncle over affair
Etah (UP):
An 18-year-old woman was allegedly shot at by her parents and uncle as they were opposed to her affair with a man, police said yesterday. Believing that the woman had died, the accused threw her in the bushes in Bahadurpur village and left, they said. The victim, however, survived the gun shot and was admitted to a hospital by some locals, they added.

No govt notification on 'national flower'
New Delhi:
The government has not given the status of 'national flower' to any flower, Union Minister of State for Home Nityananda Rai said in Rajya Sabha yesterday. He said the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has notified 'Tiger' and 'Peacock' as the 'national animal' and 'national bird' respectively, through notifications issued in 2011.

1,513 farmers committed suicide in AP between 2014-19: CM
Amaravati:
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy yesterday said 1,513 farmers had committed suicide in the state from 2014 to 2019, but only 391 families were paid ex-gratia. The Chief Minister stated this during a videoconference with district Collectors and Superintendents of Police from the state headquarters.

Special court for Pocso cases in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram:
The Kerala government yesterday decided to set up a special court for trying cases relating to sexual offences against children. The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
