Monsoon to be delayed by five days; to hit Kerala on June 6
The monsoon will hit the Kerala coast on June 6, five days after its normal onset date, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on yesterday. "This year, the statistical model forecast suggests that the monsoon onset over Kerala is likely to be slightly delayed. The southwest monsoon onset is likely to set over Kerala on 6th June with a model error of plus or minus 4 days," the IMD said. "Conditions are becoming favourable for advance of southwest monsoon over the southern part of Andaman Sea, Nicobar Islands and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal during May 18-19," the IMD said.

Muslim man defies curfew to take pregnant Hindu woman to hosp
Hailakandi (Assam):
With prayers on his lips, a Muslim man drove his auto-rickshaw as fast as he can in a curfew-hit town, so that a Hindu woman who was in an advanced stage of labour could reach the hospital on time. They made it and a boy, aptly named 'Shanti', was born on Sunday when curfew was in force in Hailakandi following communal clashes just two days ago.

3-year-old girl 'raped' in UP's Ballia
Ballia (UP):
A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped in her village in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district yesterday, police said. The incident occurred in Kalwari area, they said. A villager allegedly abducted the girl from her home in the early hours, took her to a secluded place and allegedly raped her, police said.

RTI activist shot at in Muzaffarnagar
Muzaffarnagar (UP):
An RTI activist was shot at by four men in Muzaffarnagar district, police said yesterday. Krishanpal had gone to the fields in Dhindhwali village on Tuesday evening when the four miscreants opened fire at him. The 35-year-old was rushed to a hospital in a serious condition, police said.

Chandrayaan-2 will have 13 payloads: ISRO
Bengaluru:
India's second Moon mission that is planned for a July launch will have 13 payloads and one passive experiment from American space agency NASA, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said yesterday. "Thirteen Indian payloads (8 on orbiter, 3 on lander and 2 on rover) and one passive experiment from NASA," ISRO said in a mission update, but did not specify them or their objective.
