Sonia declares assets worth Rs 11.82 cr
Rae Bareli (UP):
UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi yesterday declared personal assets worth Rs 11.82 crore, according to the affidavit she submitted while filing her nomination papers here. During the 2014 general elections, she had declared total assets worth Rs 9.28 crore. Gandhi's movable assets stand at Rs 4.29 crore, according to the affidavit.

There is growing intolerance in society, says SC
New Delhi:
The purpose of art is to "question and provoke" but there is a growing intolerance in society and organised groups pose a serious danger to the right to free speech and expression, the Supreme Court said yesterday. The observation was made in a judgement in which the apex court imposed Rs 20 lakh fine on the Mamata Banerjee government over not allowing the screening of satirical film "Bhobishyoter Bhoot" in West Bengal.

Voters' enthusiasm marks first phase of polling in Jammu
Jammu:
Early morning breeze, coupled with a relaxing dip in the day temperatures, set the tone for the first phase of voting in the Jammu Lok Sabha seat as people thronged polling stations yesterday to exercise their franchise. The Jammu parliamentary constituency, along with the Baramulla seat of north Kashmir, went to polls in the first phase yesterday.

Smriti Irani has assets over Rs 4.71 crore
Amethi:
Union minister and BJP's candidate for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat Smriti Irani yesterday declared assets worth over Rs 4.71 crore. In her affidavit, Irani has declared movable property worth over Rs 1.75 crore. Her immovable assets are worth about Rs 2.96 crore, which include an agricultural land valued at over Rs 1.45 crore and a residential building of Rs 1.50 crore.

LS polls: Delhi to have 19 'pink booths'
New Delhi:
As many as 19 pink booths -- staffed only by women -- will be established for the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, officials said. Polling in the national capital, which has seven parliamentary constituencies, is due on May 12. The first-phase of the election was held yesterday. A total of 13,816 polling stations will be established at 2,696 locations in Delhi, with a model polling station in each of the 70 assembly constituencies.
