EC bans Modi biopic during election period
New Delhi:
The Election Commission yesterday banned the screening of the biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during poll period, saying any such film that subserves purpose of any political entity or individual should not be displayed in the electronic media. The EC order came a day before the movie was to be released. The first phase of Lok Sabha elections starts Thursday.

Rs 10 lakh in cash meant for voters seized in Puducherry
A total of Rs 10 lakh in cash was seized from a car in a village near here yesterday by the static surveillance team of the election department. The unaccounted money meant to bribe voters was being brought from neighbouring Villupuram in Tamil Nadu, when the team intercepted the car and effected the seizure, deputy district election officer S Sakthivelu told reporters here.

ACP to probe I-T dept's complaint against Karnataka CM, others
A day after the I-T department sought legal action against Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and some of his cabinet colleagues for allegedly obstructing tax officers from discharging duties, an ACP has been assigned to probe the matter based on the complaint, police said yesterday. Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Goa-Karnataka region) B R Balakrishnan had written to the state chief electoral officer, seeking action against the chief minister, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara and others for "intimidating" I-T officers and obstructing them from discharging duties during the raids last month.

Rs 5.84 cr unaccounted cash seized in NE in 27 days
The Income Tax authorities have seized a total of Rs 5.84 crore in unaccounted cash in the Northeast in 27 days, an official release said here yesterday. This is around 482 per cent higher than Rs 1.21 crore seized during the 2014 general elections by the Directorate of Income Tax (Investigation), North Eastern region. The amount, Rs 5.84 crore, has been seized between March 12 and April 8 and it is more than 50 per cent of the unaccounted cash seized during the entire financial year of 2017-18.
