National Conference leader shot at in J-K's Anantnag
Srinagar:
A National Conference leader was shot at on Thursday by suspected terrorists in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. Mohammad Ismail Wani was shot at in Thajeewara area of the district in south Kashmir, a police official said.

Wani was rushed to a nearby hospital, which referred him to a hospital in Srinagar, the official said.

Fire at oil well kills 2
Ahmedabad:
Two contractual workers were killed in a fire at an ONGC well near here, the company said Thursday. A fire broke out around 2030 hours on Wednesday at Nandej well when repair and maintenance operations were being carried out by chartered hire Workover Rig Akash 4, it said in a statement.

NCP announces first list of candidates; Supriya Sule to contest from Baramati
New Delhi:
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday declared its first list of 12 candidates for Lok Sabha polls, with senior party leader Supriya Sule being fielded from the party stronghold of Baramati. The party has also given ticket to Mohammad P P Faizal from Lakshadweep. It has also decided to field sitting MPs Udayanraje Bhosale and Dhananjay Mhadik from Satara and Kolhapur, respectively.

TMC leader and four-time MLA Arjun Singh joins BJP
New Delhi:
TMC leader and four-time legislator from West Bengal Arjun Singh Thursday joined the BJP, giving a boost to the saffron party's prospects in the state for the Lok Sabha elections. Singh joined the BJP in the presence of party general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and West Bengal BJP leader Mukul Roy here.  Addressing the media at the BJP office, Singh said he was shocked at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's comments on the Pulwama terror attack.    

Senior EC officials to visit West Bengal, Assam, Tripura and Manipur soon
New Delhi:
A high-level team of the Election Commission led by a deputy election commissioner will be in West Bengal, Assam, Tripura and Manipur in the coming days to assess poll preparedness, official sources said Thursday. The decision to send Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain comes a day after the BJP urged the poll watchdog to declare West Bengal a "super sensitive state".
