Pak troops violate ceasefire along LoC in J-K
Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir by opening firing towards an Indian post in Karnah area in Kupwara district, officials said Monday.  However, no casualties have been reported so far, the officials said. The Pakistani troops from Ziarat post opened firing with small arms at Indian Army's Black Rock post at 8.00 pm on Sunday, defence officials said.  "In retaliation, Indian Army at Black Rock also fired on Pakistani post. The firing was going on from both sides," the officials said.

Paswan demands stringent law to stop manual scavenging
Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party president Ram Vilas Paswan Monday demanded a stringent law to ban manual scavenging, terming the death of five people while cleaning a sewage treatment plant here as heart-rending, shameful and inhuman. In tweets, Paswan said his party has been demanding for years that manual scavenging be banned and a stringent law be enacted against those who push people into it. Such a law should have provisions of a 10-year jail term and Rs 50 lakh fine, and it should be invoked against contractors using labourers for manual scavenging.

PM for greater people-to-people ties between India, Sri Lanka
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday called for greater people-to-people ties between India and Sri Lanka, saying it would enhance relations between the two nations. The prime minister made the remark during a meeting with a delegation of Sri Lankan members of the parliament here.  The multi-party delegation was led by Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament, Karu Jayasurya, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office said.

Railways to step up security, 100 more RPF barracks on the anvil
The Indian Railways willl build 100 additional barracks at key location for the Railway Protection Force to step up security for both passengers and rail property, an official letter has said. According to the letter issued by the Railway Board to the zonal railways, Chairman Railway Board Ashwani Lohani said that in a meet with the DGP Railway Protection Force (RPF) non-availability of barracks at key locations were highlighted.
