Encounter in Qazigund, soldier injured
An encounter broke out in Qazigund area of south Kashmir  after militants opened fire on an Army vehicle, resulting in injuries to a soldier. Militants opened fire on an Army convoy, which was on its way to Srinagar, at Qazigund, resulting in injuries to one jawan, a police official said. He said the security forces cordoned off the area and launched a hunt for the militants.The search operation by security forces has turned into an encounter with militants, the official said, adding further details are awaited.

DDCA gets notice for 'promoting' tobacco brands at cricket match
The Delhi government's health department has issued a showcause notice to the Delhi and District Cricket Association for allegedly promoting tobacco and pan masala brands at the ongoing test cricket match between India and Sri Lanka at Feroz Shah Kotla ground here.The Delhi State Tobacco Control Cell has issued the notice to the cricket association on December 2 for violating provisions under section five of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, which prohibits direct and indirect ads of tobacco products.

EC says no newspaper ads in Guj on Dec 8, 9 without clearance
The Election Commission today issued directions that no newspaper advertisement be published on December 8 and 9 in poll-bound Gujarat without its prior clearance, a policy the poll panel adopted after controversial ads were issued by the BJP during the 2015 Bihar elections.The first phase of Gujarat election would be held on December 9 for 89 assembly seats. In a direction to the Chief Electoral Officer of Gujarat, the commission said that instances of "advertisements of offending and misleading nature" were brought to its notice in the past.

Cyclone Ockhi: Rahul salutes bravery of people of Lakshadweep
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi praised the people of Lakshadweep for rescuing fishermen affected by Cyclone Ockhi and asked the government to announce a relief package for the victims. Taking to Twitter, Gandhi said his party was with the victims of the cyclone. "A salute to bravery shown by the people of Lakshadweep who helped save many fishermen during #CycloneOckhi. We stand with all the victims of this tragedy. The Government must announce relief packages for those affected by the storm, he said.
