JNU fines 4 students for preparing 'Biryani' near admin block
The Jawaharlal Nehru University authorities have slapped fines on four students for flouting rules of the institution by preparing 'Biryani' near the administration block. According to a notice issued by Chief Proctor Kaushal Kumar, fines between Rs 6,000 and Rs 10,000 have been slapped on the four students who allegedly prepared 'Biryani' near the building in June.

Thick security in Bengaluru ahead of 'Tipu Jayanti' event
The city has come under a thick security blanket ahead of the 'Tipu Jayanti' celebrations organised across the state by the government tomorrow to mark the birth anniversary of the 18th century ruler of the Mysore Kingdom. A large number of policemen have been deployed in the sensitive places.

Youth sent to 10-yr jail for sodomy in UP
A special court in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district yesterday sentenced a youth to 10 years imprisonment for sodomising a four-year-old child seven months ago. Additional District Sessions Judge Virender Kumar also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the accused, Mohit Kumar (20), after holding him guilty under Section 5 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.

Taxmen raid Jaya TV premises
Income Tax sleuths yesterday raided the premises of Tamil television channel Jaya TV here and a farm house of deposed AIADMK leader T T V Dhinakaran in neighbouring Puducherry as part of multiple searches over suspected tax evasion.

Gogoi, other Cong leaders held at GST meet venue
Guwahati: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and other senior Congress leaders were arrested yesterday while they were demonstrating outside a hotel, the venue of the GST Council meeting, here. Besides Gogoi, the arrested leaders included state Congress chief Ripun Bora, Leader of Opposition Debabrat Saikia and former minister Rakibul Hussain.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath yesterday said providing good and effective medical facilities was the top priority of his government and no laxity would be tolerated in this regard.
