Karnataka govt sends to MHA factual report on Gauri murder
The Union Home Ministry has received a report from the Karnataka government on the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh by unidentified persons in Bangalore, an official said. The state chief secretary in his factual report gave detailed account of the sensational killing and the follow up action by the police. The report also mentioned that the state government had set up a special investigation team to probe the case and find out those involved in the murder of the 55-year-old journalist, the home ministry official said.

Killing of 7-year-old: CBSE forms inquiry panel, seeks report from school
The CBSE today formed a two-member fact finding committee to probe the killing of a seven-year- old student in Gurgaon's Ryan International School and sought a report from its management within two days. The move by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) comes following outrage among parents after the student was found with his throat slit in the school washroom yesterday. "A two-member fact finding committee has been set up to enquire into the tragic murder of the student in the school premises. The school has also been asked to submit a report within two days along with the copy of the FIR," a senior board official said.

All Indians safe following Irma landfall: Swaraj
Indian missions in Caracas, Havana, Georgetown and Port of Spain have reported that all Indian nationals there are safe, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said today after hurricane Irma wreaked havoc on the Caribbean islands and surrounding areas. Irma -- which has killed at least 19 people and devastated thousands of homes in the Caribbean -- made landfall late yesterday on the Camaguey Archipelago of Cuba. "Hurricane Irma -- Our missions in Caracas (Venezuela's capital), Havana (Cuba's capital), Georgetown (Cayman Islands) and Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago) have reported that all Indian nationals there are safe," Swaraj tweeted.

Govt to hold contest to assess impact of smart city projects
To measure the "quality" and "impact" of various ongoing smart city projects, the Centre will hold a contest carrying total prize money of Rs 50 lakh, a senior official said. The housing and urban affairs ministry has circulated a concept note and guidelines on 'India Smart Cities Awards Contest, 2017' to all States and Union Territories.
