56.6 pc rise in foreign tourists arrival on e-visa in Dec 2016
Over 1.62 lakh foreigners arrived in India last month on e-tourist visa, registering a growth of 56.6 per cent, with the UK continuing to occupy the top slot availing the facility. UK continues to occupy the top slot with 22.4 per cent, followed by the US (16.4 per cent) and Russia (7.7 per cent) among the countries availing the e-tourist visa facility during December 2016. The facility of e-visa is available to the citizens of 161 countries arriving at 16 international airports in India.
India announces USD 100 million Line of Credit to Kenya
India today announced a USD 100 million Line of Credit to Kenya for agricultural mechanisation after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta during which they also decided to deepen economic cooperation, identifying expansion of bilateral trade as a "priority". Asserting that challenges in the maritime domain are a shared concern, Modi said the two sides will also explore opportunities in blue economy. "We are focussed on quick operationalisation of our defence cooperation.”
Railways to roll-out water management policy by Jan end
The first-ever policy to set the tone for water management in the Indian Railways is likely to be finalised by the end of this month, according to top officials. "We are rolling out a water policy by the end of this month which will set the tone for water management in the Indian Railways," Additional Member, Mechanical, K Swaminathan said at a roundtable discussion with non-railway stakeholders. The topic of the conference was Environment and Housekeeping Management.
GoAir firms up order for 72 A320 neo planes worth Rs 52,000 cr
GoAir has firmed up the order for 72 A320 neo planes, estimated at Rs 52,000 crore, as the no-frills airline expands its fleet and prepares to fly overseas. With the development, the carrier -- part of the Wadia group -- now has placed firm orders with Airbus for 144 A320 neos (new engine option). The airline inducted the first A320 neo -- which have better fuel efficiency -- in June last year and now has a fleet of 23 aircraft. "With the neo induction, Go Air will expand its network and offer fliers better connectivity and continue its growth.”
