If you enjoy getting your blood pumping and adrenaline rushing, Khevna Pandit brings you a few thrillers with exciting plots that you should be catching up on

There’s nothing like a good, nail-biting thriller to keep you on the edge of your seat, especially when it leaves you screaming for the next episode. However, television writers love to leave the biggest cliff hangers for season finales, but we wouldn’t mind a couple of dark plot twists every once in a while to give us a break from the usual crime dramas and sitcoms. So, we’ve compiled a list of shows that will take you through a rollercoaster with every episode and keep you waiting for more with every season. Fair warning though; look away now if you don’t like spoilers.

American Horror Story
American Horror Story spins a gripping, eerie tale with a twist with every season, and centres on different characters and locations. So far, the anthology has had stories set in a murder house, an asylum, a hotel, a freak show and even a coven. It has received several Emmy Award nominations and we just can’t get enough of each spine chilling episode. We’re eagerly waiting for the new season this year.

Scandal is a political thriller that revolves around dark twists where a former White House Communications Director starts her own crises management firm, only to realise that her clients are not the only ones with deep, dark secrets. Olivia Pope (played by Kerry Washington), who has dedicated her life to protecting and guarding the public image of America’s high society elite, ends up dealing with the twisted issues of own her dysfunctional staff.

We’re sure that the popular duo from Supernatural needs no introduction, but if you’re unfamiliar, the American fantasy horror show involves two brothers following their father’s footsteps as ‘hunters’ fighting evil, supernatural beings on earth. Sam and Dean Winchester are shown travelling in a thrilling journey across America while investigating and combating paranormal events.

Stranger Things
Dark and mysterious, this American sci-fi horror television series features a group of children, a police chief and a concerned mother looking for a young boy who disappears under mysterious circumstances. They come across a girl with her head shaved in a forest and encounter several sinister forces on their search for Will Byers. The series received critical acclaim for characterisation, pacing, atmosphere, acting, sound track, directing and writing.

The Walking Dead
What would you do if you were stuck in a land where the zombie apocalypse slowly starts to take over everything? After waking up from a coma, Rick Grimes finds himself in this situation and he has to survive in a terrifying world after being separated from his family. Having been a small town cop, Grimes has to sort through death as well as horror to get to his wife and son in a world ruled by the dead. A nerve-wracking zombie apocalypse and thriller? We’re all game for this one.

How to Get Away with Murder
The rousing series captures a group of ambitious law students and their brilliant criminal defence professor in a twisted murder plot that completely changes the course of their lives. Annalise Keating should be upholding the law; instead she teaches five of her best law students, quite literally, how to get away with a murder. We’re left gasping for breath with every season finale cliff hanger.

The Vampire Diaries
Believe it or not, TVD makes it to our list (and not just because of Ian Somerhalder), because of its spine-chilling plot twists. Although, the menacing love triangle is much more than a sappy, vampire-bitten love story, the show revolves around Elena and the love of her life Stefan (whom she discovers is a vampire), before she meets his brother Damon (who battles a dark past). Both brothers strive to protect Elena from the increasing supernatural threats such as werewolves that inhabit the clan. The brothers’ history and the town’s mythology is revealed through flashbacks, so be prepared.
