Accusing the BJP of spending crores on misleading advertisement campaigns in the recently-held parliamentary elections, Congress’ poll campaign committee chief Narayan Rane alleged that the Modi government was now in the process of repaying the favours of the “marketing gimmick” to the rich industrial houses by plotting to reduce the importance of Mumbai by shifting important projects to Gujarat.
The former state heavy industries minister said this during his election campaign in Mira Bhayandar for Congress candidates Yakub Qureshi (Mira-Bhayandar) and Pratibha Patil (Ovala-Majiwada) at the Abhinav school ground in Bhayandar (E) on Thursday. “Despite a strong presence in the region, the Congress party has been religiously ensuring the victory of the NCP candidates in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections for the past 15 years. However, development works have virtually come to a standstill in the region. And now rumours of a secret tie-up with the BJP and Shiv Sena are being spread to create confusion amongst the electorate,” said MLC Muzaffar Hussain. Ridiculing Uddhav Thackeray’s aspirations of becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Rane said that his dreams will be shattered as the Shiv Sena is destined to be reduced to miserable numbers in these elections.
Launching a scathing attack on the NCP, Rane said that the party was brimming with corruption. Also present were former MBMC Mayor Tulsidas Mhatre, municipal corporators and other office bearers of the Congress party.
