The BJP and Congress have rolled out their big guns for election campaign in the Mira Bhayandar assembly segment. While Narayan Rane and Prithviraj Chavan topped the list as star campaigners for Congress candidate Yakub Qureshi, the BJP in order to galvanise the South Indian electorate, roped in Union minister Ananth Kumar amongst other top leaders.
“You should help the BJP emerge victorious with an absolute majority. This will ensure a corruption-free and Congress-free Maharashtra. The BJP stands for justice and development and our Prime Minister has made everyone proud through his vision,” Kumar said while urging the South Indian community based in the twin-city to vote for BJP candidate Narendra Mehta.
While addressing an election rally organised by BJP’s South Indian Cell in the Ideal Park of Mira Road, Kumar ruled out the possibility of a fractured verdict. “We are confident that the BJP will form the government with a clear majority in Maharashtra,” he said. Other prominent speakers included veteran BJP leaders, Venkaiah Naidu and Gopal Shetty. Besides Shah and Ananth Kumar, BJP leaders Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Venkaiah Naidu, Manoj Sinha, Gopal Shetty and Vijendra Gupta also addressed a series of rallies in this constituency. Buoyed by the success in Parliamentary polls, the Shiv Sena-BJP-led combine is making a determined bid to capture power after being in Opposition since 1999.
