What is wrong with Mumbai Indians?

Friday, April 27, 2018

The game of cricket is a funny game and the fortune fluctuates and pendulum swings to both the participating sides. Match number 23 between Mumbai Indians (MI) versus Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 11 carried all the thrill, twists and turns of an interesting cricket match. The Mumbai side did not have a balanced team and that gave lot of problems in close encounters. Team lost 4 out of the first five matches in the last over and the sixth one was a disaster as the team from a 61 for 3 position capsized to total of 87 without semblance of resistance from the late order batting. Had they switched the batting order with a pinch hitter taking the one drop position, the loss of early wickets could have been avoided and the quota of main bowlers would have been completed by the time the star batsmen take the crease. Both Rohit Sharma and K. Pollard perished to Rashid Khan-Dhawan combination and the later order batting surrendered like a pack of cards in the end to lose by 31 runs. Mumbai Indians will have to buck up and win as many of the remaining matches to be somewhere in contention for the play off level of the championship.
