Serious in-cockpit fight between pilots

Monday, January 08, 2018

This has reference to the report that two flight commanders in a Jet flight from London to Mumbai had a fight that involved slapping that made the lady commander leave the cockpit once or twice. She had to be persuaded to return to the cockpit, by the air-hostesses, on grounds of safety of the flight and the passengers. This is a serious case of discipline and passenger safety norms. If the co-pilots fight and one of them abandons her station, how can an emergency be managed? Such irresponsible behaviour endangers the lives of passengers. I do hope the Indian Government will undertake a serious audit of the incident and ensure tough action against the erring pilots. Such incidents cannot be treated casually or forgotten with time, for they concern human lives and the reputation of the Jet Air and India.

Such incidents in a reputed airlines abroad, like Emirates or British Air, would have resulted in immediate termination of the concerned pilots.
