The compulsion of standing to show our patriotism while our national anthem is being played defies logic. We often see our politicians and netas shouting slogans and abusing others while standing. Does that mean they are patriotic? Why do we give so much importance to the act of standing in order to show our patriotism, nationalism, respect, etc? Patriotism and respect comes from our heart and mind, from our very being, and not just from our legs. It should not be forced on anyone. Why can't people have the choice to sit quietly with folded hands while the national anthem is being played? When we sit next to our parents or our elders, does that mean we disrespect them? We normally sit and pray to our respective Gods, so does that mean we are disrespecting God? Respect begets respect, and not by force, compulsion or arm twisting tactics.
