Commuting by local trains in Mumbai is nightmarish. Serpentine queues in front of ticket-counters add to the woes of commuters. Introduction of ATVMs therefore gave relief & joy to the people using local trains. However, this joy was short-lived. Most of the ATVMs on the raised corridors of Andheri station are not functioning for the last six months, and the people who bought smart cards using their hard earned money have to spend 10 to 15 minutes to get a ticket from ATVMs since the cursor movement is defective. This may be the case in other suburban stations too. Complaints to concerned authority at Andheri station failed to solve the problem. Even the email sent to the Union Railway Minister failed to evoke any response.
It is high time the station masters became responsive to needs of commuters by supervising the facilities available at railway stations regularly. Will the railway authority address this problem immediately to mitigate the sufferings of railway commuters?
