Monsoon mayhem on the roads of Mumbai

Wednesday, July 26, 2017

Monsoon rains started late this time in the month of June and lasted throughout July at a stretch. There was not flooding this time. However, the rains were persistent and solved our drinking water problem for the next year. Monsoon rains saw jammed roads and the local trains got delayed in most parts of the city.  This is not a new experience for the people in Mumbai.  Rain continued for the second day and the roads were in a mess.  With number of potholes and craters on the main roads, navigating through  busy places was a herculean task for the drivers.  Some of the car owners avoided using tvehicle and went by local trains as the rain was almost continuous.  However,  local trains got delayed as water logging was there on the tracks adding to the misery.  Trains were late by 15 to minutes causing confusion in main stations of the city.  Intermittent rains caused delay in road repair work and there were traffic snarls everywhere.  It was indeed problems galore for the road users in the city hampered by the delay in train services.
