Modi must take up Doklam, CPEC issues with Xi

Friday, May 04, 2018

People of India are asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi whether he will remember his innate duty of protecting India’s strategic interests by raising the Doklam issue with China that impacts national security during his visit there as there is A feeling that the visit of the Prime Minister as having “no agenda”. India must talk in China about two crucial issues — the Doklam standoff with Chinese troops last year and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Modi may not be able to show “red eyes” as he “loftily promised”, but will he show the courage and conviction to do plain-speaking on Doklam and defend India’s interests. India is facing an increasingly aggressive China which is trying to intrude into the “chicken neck” — Siliguri corridor — by building a new road through south of Doklam, and the people wondered why is the Modi government “clueless and incapable” of sending a strong message to China. Indian and Chinese troops were locked in a standoff in Doklam area last year. The face-off ended through negotiations after 72 days. The CPEC, a part of China’s ambitious development strategy of Belt and Road Initiative, runs through PoK and India opposes the controversial project. Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping began talks at an unprecedented two-day informal summit in Wuhan city in central China. During the visit, the two leaders will have a series of one-on-one conversations on bilateral, global and regional issues but the visit is incomplete without taking the issues like Doklam and CPEC.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been very prophetic in his statement that “Ache din ayenge”. The way Rahul Gandhi went hammer and tongs at Modi in  his speech at the Ramlila Maidan and created noise clamour and “Din” must have vindicated Modi’s theory of Ache “din” !!!! Empty vessels make the most noise. It is reported that a sea of humans had congregated at Rahuls rally. They must have been all at sea in response to his ramblings. The newly anointed Congress President Rahul Gandhi displayed an empty bravado and boasting in his spiel that the Congress would win all the assembly elections in Karnataka, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh as well as the Lok Sabha polls. Rahul Gandhi must be oblivious of the fact that the Gallup international survey has rated PM Modi among the worlds top 3 leaders. The top spot has gone to French President Emmanuel Macron followed by Angela Merkel. Modi was ahead of US President Donald Trump, Chinese Prez Xi Jinping, Russian Prez Putin, UKs Theresa May and Israels Netanyahu.  So Modi does pack a punch !!!!
