Leopard scare

Friday, February 09, 2018

It was heartening to note that leopard population is on the rise and it is an encouraging one. But it has become an alarming issue as residential places like Mulund and Aarey Milk Colony are witnessing regular incidents of the wild attacking humans, concerningly disturbing to the lives of the common man. 41 leopards were identified across the width and breath of the peripheral area. The data base should carry an exact record of animals and the survey should be a proper one. This is a sad state of affairs as the authorities in charge do not have the correct count at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. The authorities should have the correct count and train the spotted wild cats to go round that area rather than going out for food and maul the residents in the vicinity. Human life is lost in such nature visits, and people living in these areas just pray to God for their safety and risk their life by going out in the night. It is high time the authorities pay heed to this fact and make a permanent solution before the situation goes out of hand and see many more human deaths in the process. We have to preserve species like Lion, Tiger and Cheetah and allow them to roam freely but not at the expense of human life. This is my clarion call.
