Escalators at Railway platform

Monday, December 04, 2017

It is heartening to note that Railway Stations within Mumbai and in suburbs and also along Thane-Navi Mumbai corridor are upgraded slowly. Thane Railway station has an escalator on one side of the platform thereby the strain of climbing the stairs  can be well avoided. It is a right step in the right direction to take up such an initiative at busy stations. Local trains are the life line of Mumbai city and suburban railway reflect the direction in which Mumbai is moving. The Mumbai Suburban Railway, as well as the Indian Railways are an offshoot of the first railway to be built by the British in India, and is also the oldest railway system in Asia. The first train ran between Bori Bunder (now CST) and Thane and it is time to upgrade the infrastructure. The Bombay Railway History Group has been striving to document heritage along this line. Now with an escalator, we are looking forward tomore such facilities for the passengers in the near future and make some of the stations as  model Railway Station in Mumbai and suburbs in the years to come.
